O’s Notes: Veteran guitarist/vocalist John Pizzarelli leads a trio on Stage & Screen, a dozen freshly arranged silver screen and theater classics. Bassist Michael Karn and pianist Isaiah J. Thompson join him and make strong statements throughout the session. John scats alongside his guitar melodies on “I Love Betsy”. His voice is a tad raspy in spots but the warm emotion and seamless integration with his guitar (and the rest of the band) make this a winner. “Just In Time”, “Oklahoma Suite” and “Coffee In A Cardboard Box” are other highlights underscored by exceptional work on guitar.
