O’s Notes: Jazz saxophonist Rob Dixon teams up with pianist, composer, and arranger Steve Allee for a delightful set of a dozen songs on Standards Deluxe. Nick Tucker (b), Greg Artry or Kenny Phelps (d), and Derrick Gardner (t) are the remaining instrumentalists. Amanda King adds warm vocals notably on “The Very Thought of You”, “Sway”, and the first take of “Caravan”. The mix of vocals and instrumentation is excellent, leading to a pleasing modern jazz set!
