O’s Notes: Woody died over 15 years ago but not before leaving an indelible mark on the jazz scene. This 1979 recording includes Onaje Allen Gumbs (p) and Victor Lewis (d). They are very well coordinated and come out blazing on the title track. The momentum builds from there and takes the listener for an energetic ride with Shaw blazing! “Seventh Avenue”, “Blues For Ball” and “Escape Velocity” are among the best in a stellar set.
