O’s Notes: Composer, alto saxophonist Benjamin Koppel leads a septet with Frederikke Vedel (vocals), Randy Brecker (t), Søren Møller (p), Johnny Åman (b), Hendrick Dam Thomsen (cello), and Ferenc Nemeth (d, perc). The Story of Mankind is a tragic musical depiction of the chaotic state of repeated ignorance. We continuously face the rath of greed, autocracy, power and war with dire consequences for the masses of less fortunate people. The original program can be eerie as on “Bleuet” and then somewhat calming on “Night Soft Night”, a reflection of lessons that we can’t seem to learn.
