O’s Notes: Saxophonist Paul Carr reaches back to his roots in Houston to bring us elements of soul and R&B for this contemporary jazz set. He is successful with a CD that offers a well-executed, broad pallet of music. Among Carr’s supporting cast are guitarist Bobby Broom, Allyn Johnson (p), Michael Bowie (b) and drummer Lewis Nash. The program is mostly classic covers with a couple of Carr’s originals. Tempo varies from instrumental ballads like “Dreams Of You” to the upbeat, spirited “Scrappy”. Other highlights are “Light And lovely” and the soothing cover of “Love Wants To Dance”.
