O’s Notes: Russian flutist, composer Julia Musayelyan presents Strange Times, a reflection of her experiences during and in the aftermath of the pandemic. She forms a quartet with Maxim Lubarsky (p), Fernando Huergo (b), and Mark Walker (d). Huergo and Musayelyan performed together as a duo at numerous social media engagements during the pandemic seeding much of what we hear now. The music is pleasant, and full of positive energy, countering the unsettling times. “Futurism”, “Solstice”, “Carnavalito” and the title track are some of the best examples.
