O’s Notes: A wide array of strong talent, powerful messages and fine musicianship make Strong Black Women a strong statement. Some of the best are Felicia Collins’ vocal tribute on “Nina, Nina Simone” and Dee Dee Bridgewater singing the title track. Bassist Endea Owens makes a strong statement on “Walking With A Purpose”. We also enjoyed Raydar Ellis and Shanell ‘Lady Luck’ Jones injecting a dose of hip-hop on “Hip Empowerment”.
