O’s Notes: Dave Koz is the headliner but this album is packed with talent. To start Koz has his friends, fellow saxophonists Mindi Abair, Gerald Albright and Richard Elliott. Ricky Lawson (d), Paul Brown (g) and Roberto Vally (b) anchor the rhythm section. They take us on a journey that includes arrangements of tunes by Earth Wind & Fire, The Beatles, James Brown, Dave Brubeck and Stevie Wonder. Add guest artists Jonathan Butler (vocals) and Rick Braun (t) on “You Haven’t Done Nothin'” and Jeffrey Osborne for “God Bless The Child” and you get the gist. There is much more making this a “can’t miss” release based on the talent alone. Execution is solid making Summer Horns a collection of memories worthy of visiting.
