O’s Notes: Drummer, composer Mark Lockett leads a quartet with David Binney on sax, Duane Eubanks on trumpet and bassist Matt Penman. The cordless ensemble explores fresh music with a few unique time signatures. The resulting Swings & Roundabouts are edgy, hard bop that reflects Mark’s inspiration by the works of Ornette Coleman. We liked the swinging groove of “Virtual Reality” and “Happy Go Lucky” best in the set of nine original compositions.
