O’s Notes: Guitarist, producer and composer Shawn Purcell is a Pittsburgh native but currently resides in Washington, DC where he’s been a part of various military jazz bands for over 15 years as well as a side man for many popular, civilian jazz acts.“Symmetricity“is his debut recording as a leader and it is a blend of modern jazz, jazz-fusion and a couple of ballads featuring voicing by Darden Purcell notably on ‘A Bella‘. Guest saxophonist Luis Hernandez joins Purcell on spirited melodies for three selections standing out on ‘Norm’s View‘. Other highlights are ‘Missed It By An Inch‘, ‘Swirl‘ and the lone cover, ‘Here’s That Rainy Day‘.
