O’s Notes: Tales, Musings and other Reveries is a fitting title for trumpeter Jeremy Pelt’s latest release. It is mostly original tunes with few carefully selected covers, notably Wayne Shorter’s “Vonetta”. Jeremy uses two drummers, Billy Drummond and Victor Lewis, Ben Allison (b) and Simona Premazzi (p) to round out his quintet. The unusual grouping works well even on warm ballads like “I Only Miss Her When I Think of Her”.
