O’s Notes: Tarakaft is Tamashek for caravan, a Malian band that performs what is known as desert rock. The guitars are prominent with club beats and pop vocals. Tarakaft has been playing for just over ten years and this is their third release featuring Liya Ag Ablil (aka Diara), formally of Tinariwen, Abdallah Ag Ahmed and Sanou Ag Ahmed. The music has blues, county and rock elements coming together for a unique blend. We thought “Ahabib” was the best of the lot.
