O’s Notes: Jessy J is a new contemporary jazz sax player. Yes, Jessy is 100% woman and yes, she can handle her tenor sax! She teams with guitarist/producer Paul Brown to write four of the eleven songs. “Sin Ti” is among the best with Jessy whispering emotions into the sax and placing accents in the right places. She draws the listener into her groove. She moves to a Latin groove singing “Mas Que Nada” and “Besame Mucho”, returning to sax for “Fiesta Velada”. J does well placing her stamps on the classic. This isn’t an abundance of watered down smooth jazz. Jessy imparts emotion without screaming reminding us of Grover on at times. Her notes are well spoken and dynamic, well integrated with a tight band. We appreciated the solid foundation from bassist Roberto Vally.
