O’s Notes: Thank You, Tom Jobim! Is a collection of songs composed or inspired by the legendary Brazilian, pianist, guitarist, and songwriter, Antonio Carlos Jobim (also known as Tom Jobim). The performing artists all record on Arkadia Jazz and have celebrated Jobim’s music. We are graced with a wide variety of approaches and unique arrangements of Jobim’s music. Tetel Di Babuya sings “Vocé”, Harold Land (t-sax) shines in front of Ray Ellis’s big band on “Wave”, and there are several small ensembles notably Joanne Brackeen’s (p) trio on “Quiet Nights Of Quiet Stars”, and Nigel Clark’s (g) quartet on “Once I Loved”. We also enjoyed Bob Brookmeyer (tb) and Lee Konitz (a-sax) blending their horns on Gerry Mulligan’s “Theme for Jobim”.
