O’s Notes: Hyperion“is #4 of seven volumes in The“Art of Ivo Perelman-Shipp. This is a trio with bassist Michael Bisio joining the duo a follow-up of 2012’s“The Gift. Bisio runs countercurrent on most selections but also serves as a pacifying element to the music. We found “Part 9” to swing peacefully and really enjoyed the ballads (“Parts 1, 4 and 10” are examples) on this volume even with Ivo’s squawking. These are hints of what Perelman could do on a more straight-ahead approach.
