O’s Notes: Cool jazz of the early 1960’s had guys like Davis holding center stage. He was rockin’ on “Intermission Riff”, simmering with soothing ballads like “Willow Weep For Me” and even finding his way with a large ensemble on “Trane Whistle”. He has that gutsy soulful sound that defines his signature. We find him playing with Shirley Scott on the B3, George Duvivier (b) and Arthur Edgehill (d), the core of many of his ensembles between 1958 & 1962. It’s a great look at ‘Lockjaw’ featuring a lot of his best stuff.
