O’s Notes: While Red may be remembered as the pianist in the famous Miles Davis Quintet, he is a fine leader in his own right. There is ample evidence of this on “Soul Junction”, his composition. On this Prestige Records collection Garland is featured in sessions originally recorded in 1961 and 1957. While this is Red’s show, John Coltrane (sax) and Donald Byrd (t) also make notable appearances.
