O’s Notes: Vibraphonist Milt Jackson is equally adept playing supporting roles and leading the band. We point to his successful years with the Modern Jazz quartet as strong evidence of the former. This collection spans the period from 1954 to 1963 on Prestige Records where he led his own ensembles. But even here, he shares the stage with the likes of Horace Silver (p), Cannonball Adderley (sax), Wes Montgomery (g) and Kenny Dorham (t). That is not to say he stays in the shadows. He also makes strong statements on vibes that are amazing.
