O’s Notes: Dr. John is a true personification of New Orleans blues. He sits behind his piano, striking a blend of Dixie, blues and stride, adds some funky R&B and puts his raspy vocals on top. He’s got lots of stories and plenty of spirit. That is New Orleans jazz Dr. John style: happy music, even when they play the blues! These of the best of his recordings on Parlophone during 1998-2004.
