O’s Notes: Trombonist Nick Finzer leads a sextet playing eleven modern jazz originals for The Chase, his second recording as a leader. Nick’s band includes guitarist Alex Wintz, Lucas Pino on sax, pianist Glenn Zaleski, bassist Dave Baron and Jimmy MacBride on drums. This is a tight knit unit with all except Zaleski returning from Finzer’s debut. The music swings with Finzer taking on the melodies with great precision and tone. This is a fresh set that is enjoyable on many fronts.
