O’s Notes: Ben has been heavily influenced by Steve Lacy and wrote the songs for this CD with him in mind. The band is Carla Kihlstedt (violin, vocals), Devin Hoff (b), Ches Smith (d), Rob Sudduth (b) and Goldberg on clarinet. There are thirteen tracks, each with a subtle, darker tone and a neobop/fusion groove that sometimes wanders into free space. We liked the interplay on “F13” with violin, sax and clarinet dancing among each other.
