O’s Notes: This is part of Prestige Records Moodsville Series, with the goal of being beautiful, poetic and thoughtful. The selection of tunes was left to the leader and Wess has done well here. He plays both flute and tenor sax. He shows an incredible sense of pace and romance on his own “Rainy Afternoon” and “Gone With The Wind” (on sax). He opens and ends with the flute establishing and resetting the mood of the set. Tommy Flanagan (p) who makes a strong contribution, Eddie Jones (b) and Bobby Donaldson (d) round out the band. This is great for a romantic evening.
