O’s Notes: McClenty Hunter is a standout drummer on the New York jazz scene having performed with a wide array of headliners over the past decade. He takes the leading role on“The Groove Hunter“and employs a strong team to perform his music. Eddie Henderson (t), Donald Harrison (sax), Eric Reed (p) and Dave Stryker (g) are some of the stellar cast. There’s a strong bond between the musicians that leads to a seamless approach yet fluid enough for creative juices to flow from all seats. The relaxed flow of “Autumn” and “My Love”; the mellow mid tempo groove of “That Girl” and “Sack Full of Dreams”; and the burn of “Blue Chopsticks” and “Countdown” combine to keep the listeners attention and warm the soul.
