O’s Notes: Saxophonist Jeff Hackworth leads a quartet with Ed Cherry (g), Kyle Koehler (B3) and Vince Ector (d). They play a mix of cool jazz standards and originals by Hackworth. Jeff is breathing deep passion into his sax on “Fool That I Am” with Koehler making the B3 sing backup. Hackworth uses dynamics to impart feeling and touch on “September Song” typifying his winning style and emboldening his signature. Cherry has a notable solo here as well. This is an easy-going set featuring a polished team that swings gracefully.
