O’s Notes: The Infinite is relaxed cool fusion (soft bop) featuring Dave on trumpet along with Chris Potter (sax), Uri Caine (fender rhodes), James Genus (b) and Clarence Penn (d). Nine songs mostly written by Douglas are rather intriguing. They range from the mysterious sounds of “Penelope” to a nice arrangement of Mary J. Blige’s “Crazy Games. The retro feel of the rhodes intertwined with soaring brass from Potter and Douglas, notably on “Waverly”, give this CD a unique character.
