O’s Notes: Chilean guitarist Benjamin Schnake composed and produced The Joy of Playing, an album that is true to its title. There is much love in the air as Schnake leads an ensemble centered around Santiago Leibson (p), Gui Duvignau (b) and Paul Shaw (d). There a full horn compliment on four selections with guest Dave Pietro (a-sax) shining on “Marisol” and “She’s Gone”. We enjoyed the rich Latin flavors on “Aju” and “Lakitas” with Benjamin playing mandolin and Ammon Swinbank on flute. There is also a tasteful covers of “Goodbye Porkpie Hat” with nice work by Leibson.
