The Lagos Music Salon captures the musical heartbeat of Lagos, arguably the pulse of Africa. With more than 21 million people, Lagos is the largest city in Africa and a different kind of global city, the vine of Nigeria. The beats are cool R&B that is well integrated with Somi’s vocal patterns leading to a groove that is easy to warm up to and easy for repeated listening. Under the encouragement of her Uncle Hugh Masekela Somi made the journey to Lagos. It culminated with this project, a worthy effort and among the best contemporary jazz vocal albums of the year.
