O’s Notes: This album is dedicated to the legendary pianist, Gene Harris a man who always played hard and with a soulful groove. Frank’s quartet captured that ‘in-the-pocket’ feel over ten popular standards. The arrangements are refreshingly different with varied tempos – a slower version of “Sweet Georgia Brown” and a faster pace than usual for “My Foolish Heart”. Potenza (g) blends well on leads with pianist Larry Fuller, notably on “Funk In A Deep Freeze”. This CD swings all the way through and is worth many repeated listening sessions.
