O’s Notes: Trombonist and composer Sam Blakeslee assembles a quartet with Chris Coles (a-sax), Brandon Coleman (g) and Matt Wiles (b). There are nine selections, all original with an arrangement of a traditional Appalachian folk song. The music is sedative, very relaxing with a large dose of creativity. The musicians play off of each other’s spontaneous themes. We liked the spirited bounce of “Franklin’s Blues”, one of the more jovial selections.
