O’s Notes: Guitarist Kevin Eubanks takes a bold stab with The Messenger, clinging to the music that is in his genes. He composed nine of the eleven tracks, a blend of contemporary jazz with R&B, funk-laced rhythms tempered with a few ballads that will attract a wide audience. The core band is his quartet: Billy Pierce (sax), Rene Camacho (b) and drummer Marvin Smith. Guest appearances by Robin Eubanks (tb), Duane Eubanks (t), Alvin Chea (vocals) and Joey De Leon, Jr. (congas, perc) add spice to the mix. This is an exciting release and welcome beginning to the New Year!
