O’s Notes: Jimmy plays trumpet and flugelhorn for The Monk Project, a recreation of some of the best from Thelonius Monk. The all-star band includes brass from Wycliffe Gordon (tb), Marcus Strickland (ts) and Howard Johnson (tuba). Their harmonies are sweet especially on “Reflections” and “Let’s Cool One”. Kenny Barron (p), Kenny Davis (b) and Winard Harper (d) provide the foundation. The mood is swinging, bouncy and on the off beats as Monk would have it and delightfully so.
