O’s Notes: Marquis Hill is a new voice on the contemporary jazz scene. Listen carefully ’cause he’s got a relevant message. He expresses it with music, mellow tones and a taste of spoken word on the bookends. Hill plays trumpet & flugelhorn and leads a band including standouts Justin Thomas (vibes), Joshua Ramos (b) and Christopher McBride (sax). The cool vibe is enhanced with several peaceful interludes.
