O’s Notes: Bronx native, bassist, composer Carlos Henriquez presents The South Bronx Story, a rich, retrospective of the social history of his Puerto Rican music art form in NYC. Carlos’ work on bass stands out, defining the groove on songs like “Hydrants Love All”. The horns are spirited with notable contributions from Terell Stafford (t), Marshall Gilkes (tb), Michael Rodriguez (t) and Melissa Aldana (sax). The beats are primed for dancing with crisp brass and festive undertones. Among the best are “Soy Humano”, “Black” with spoken word by Henriquez and “Fort Apache”. Jeremy Bosch (fl, Coro) handles most vocals notably on “Hip Hop Con Clave”.
