O’s Notes: Drummer mark Lomax leads a trio with Edwin Bayard (sax) and Dean Hulett (b). They perform a musical, poetic depiction of The State of Black America. Opening with “Stuck in a Rut”, Lomax and company display a wealth of creativity that parallels the swirl of politics. We feel the sadness in “The Unknown Self” as Mark seeks to find a place to connect. These six selections are an invitation to engage in Mark’s space. We found new insight with repeated listening, a sign of the depth of the work.
