O’s Notes: Tom presents an all-new set of original compositions inspired by legends of all ages in Ellington, Miles, Woods and Silver. He chooses a polished team of musicians: Wayne Escoffery (sax), pianist Danny Grissett, Ugonna Okegwo on bass and drummer Jonathan Blake. The result is an extension into the future that is in step with today! The essence of “Estaury” is a prime example with Harrell stretching the notes of his trumpet on the warm inviting melody. We also liked the funky beats of “Ridin'” featuring Escoffery and Blake, the cool flow of “Dream Text” and the brass blend on “River Samba”. Unquestionably a winner!
