O’s Notes: Suggs has a rich baritone voice and is a gifted writer & arranger. He puts his talents to work on a plethora of material. The tradition of “We Shall Overcome” and “Lift Every Voice And Sing” will resonate with many African Americans. Straight-ahead jazz fans will appreciate his takes of “Round Midnight”, “Your Smile” and “Seize The Moment”, an original. We were romanced by “Cuz I’m In Love With You” including soaring vocal accompaniment from Sarah Marie Young. We also enjoyed “JL’s Blues” and the up-tempo beats of “Hope” capping a very good session.
