O’s Notes: Korean pianist, composer, band director and co-producer Hyeseon Hong presents a dynamic large ensemble reflecting on the seemingly impossible challenges that many of us have faced over the last several years. Personal strife, the pandemic, seas of misinformation, and personal loss at times create a sense of hopelessness but Hong suggests that Things Will Pass. The rays of hope come through in her music, a peaceful, yet dynamic set that is well-recorded. “Run Away” featuring vocalist Aubrey Johnson, Alejandro Aviles on alto sax, and guitarist Matt Panayides, and “Night Climbing” with guest Rich Perry (t-sax) are highlights.
