O’s Notes: Ramsey is a living legend on the contemporary jazz scene. His groundbreaking album, The In Crowd was produced 40 years ago! It had a funky, R&B feel that extended its acceptance to a wide audience. But Ramsey also excels on the straight-ahead and classical music fronts. Time Flies is a reflection of all of his music including updates to his radio popular hits, a couple of classical songs and a gospel tune, “Hosanna”. Our favorites were “Midnight At The Oasis” and “Hide & Seek”, a swinging new composition that allows each member of his trio [Larry Gray – bass and Leon Joyce – drums] to perform strong solos. Ramsey still has the magic.
