O’s Notes: Andrew (p) leads a quintet featuring Greg Tardy (sax, cl), John Hebert (b) Eric McPherson (d) and Charles Tolliver (t). Each of these musicians can make a statement and Time Lines allows them to do so on numerous occasions. While some free jazz can be congested and difficult to follow, there is a lot of air here allowing you to track the lead player or soloist as they express themselves. Hill improved our Free Jazz comprehension in this regard. Hebert’s performance on bass is also notable.
