O’s Notes: Alicia Olatuja’s voice is soulful with precise tonal balance owing to her passion for opera, theater, R&B and jazz. The combination is soothing, inspirational and heartfelt on timeless a collection of classic pop, Latin and jazz tunes. We enjoyed Alicia’s interpretation of Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature” and “Serrado”, one of three songs featuring guest bassist Christian McBride. Otherwise bass duty is handled by her husband Michael Olatuja who anchors the bottom with drummer Ulysses Owens, Jr. Joe Cowherd plays piano and organ providing a strong link between the band members. Alicia also stood out on her cover of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” and the R&B-laced “The One” featuring Jaleel Shaw on sax. This is a strong effort with many dimensions. Stay tuned!
