O’s Notes: Plunge is a brass and bass trio led by trombonist Mark McGrain who composed all of the compositions. Tim Green (sax) and James Singleton (b) are the rest of the core with Tom Fitzpatrick (sax) and Kirk Joseph (sousaphone) appears on several tracks. The absence of a drummer is not an issue with pace and in fact opens up the stage for a clear resolution of these instruments lower registers. The music has a New Orleans party feel to it, especially the free-swinging solos on “Bright Side” and the funky riffs of “Huff-A-Round”. We enjoyed the party!
