O’s Notes: Tonk is Lenny Marcus’s second tribute to the late Ray Bryant and it is as good as the first (Sun Ray)! He plays with Rick Eckberg (b), Larry Scott (d), Vladimir Espinosa (perc) and Tom Artwick (sax). Lenny shines on the piano especially on “Blues No.2” and “C-Jam Blues”. And his accompaniment sticks with him rolling through sixteen classics like ‘”Tonk” and “Cubano Chant”. This is a good sampling of Bryant’s tunes and tunes he liked to play. Marcus brings them back to life swinging all the way through.
