O’s Notes: Pianist Lafayette Gilchrist opens with “New Jack”, a funky vamp anchored by a tight rhythm section and highlighted by the brass, 2 tenor saxes, 1 alto and a dancing muted trumpet. They race through eight more tunes all with a sense of bounce and also including some dark blues. “Unbreakable” is a brassy blue ballad and “No Locomotion Blues” brings us some New Orleans instrumental blues.
