O’s Notes: Whitted has been around for a while but it has been 14 years since his last release. It was worth the wait! Pharez (t) blends his brass with Eddie Bayard (sax) making rich and mellow lead lines through a set of eleven new modern jazz originals. Most are swinging neobop leaning towards the mellow side. Whitted shines on Soul Mates” and “Sunset on The Gaza” a bluesy ballad. “Brother Thomas” and “Plicky” feature guitarist Bobby Broom. We also enjoyed the funky beats on “Our Man Barack” one of two tunes inspired by the president. We hope we don’t have to wait so long for the next Whitted release!
