O’s Notes: The band is tight, anchored with Curtis Fondren (d) and Jimmy Hinds (b) rock steady beats. Pianist Ptah Williams opens the set with “Mandela” and the mood is set for a spiritual, exuberant performance. She’s not preachin’ but Fontella delivers meaningful lyrics over excellent jazzy soul lyrics. Her voice will raise the hairs on the back of your neck.
