O’s Notes: Ralph follows up his Blakey Tribute (100) in a trio with The Curtis Brothers, Zaccai on piano and Luques playing bass. They play intoxicating beats like the heavily syncopated “Beatrice” and “Manifest Destiny”, one of Zaccai’s two originals along with the swinging “Moments”. Peterson learned from old-school masters like hard bop pianist Walter Davis, Jr. and pays homage by including three of his compositions, notably “400 Years Ago Tomorrow”. They squeeze a relaxed cover of “Skylark” in the middle to catch their breath otherwise they go full tilt!
