O’s Notes: This is a Tribute to Irakere, one of Cuba’s most famous ensembles and a band Valdes led for several years. So this live set is a logical and meaningful dedication for Chucho who remains at his peak as a pianist and composer. The music has heavy Afro-Cuban rhythms and lyrics resulting in a powerful Earthy experience. The percussion and brass laden band is powerful, precise and easy to embrace. They play in concert mode: up-tempo and with generous solos so be prepared to have your pulse elevated and engage in the groove. It is a meaningful and thoroughly Cuban jazz experience!
