O’s Notes: Fans of the B3 know Joey D, already a legend on his instrument! Trip Mode is an emotional journey touching many jazz genres and warming up your spirits. DeFrancesco’s supporting cast is guitarist Dan Wilson, drummer Jason Brown and bassist Mike Boone. This is a relatively new unit but they polished their chops on tour during 2015 and they were tight in the studio! These nine originals will have you bobbing your head and patting your feet. The surprise is Joey playing trumpet and breathing a lot of passion into it on “Arizona Sunrise”. He also plays piano for several tracks notably “The Touch of Your Lips” where he also sings. There is a heavy dose of funk on “Traffic Jam” and the fusion laced “What’s Your Organ Players Name?” with Joey infusing hints of both Tom Browne and George Duke. All of the music is original as DeFrancesco continues to reinvent himself and expand his pallet.
