Narada, 2007, CD
Jazz Ruler Type: Pop+Jazz
O’s Notes: Steve is another of the young contemporary jazz saxophone players. He’s rapidly defining his signature, an urgent passionate theme with some similarity to early David Sanborn, especially on “Curtis”. Cole adds a wealth of talented musicians and varies the pace of the songs to keep your attention. He’s got Lenny Castro (perc), Ricky Peterson (B3), Jeff Golub (g) and a live (vs. programmed beats) drummer Khari Parker for most of the tracks! “Coté Siene” features Steve Rodby running on bass while Cole solos. They slow it down for “Closer”, a ballad, before wrapping the set with the slow funk of “Come With Me”.
