O’s Notes: Our first thoughts of eleven trumpets were that it could be rather bright! We quickly noticed that the wealth of trumpets was spread over the ten songs. There are two core rhythm sections and both are tight. Composer, arranger, producer and trombonist Michael Davis pair with each of the trumpets to present warm tones on the melodies. Each song takes on a different character while maintaining a similar theme. The compositions invoke good feelings. This is exceptional modern jazz from the mellow tones of “Blue Day” to the bouncy bop of “Brass Walk” and the subtle funky undertones of “Big City”.
